Prince Dastan, a True Prince?

It’s time to unbox my preordered Prince Dastan of the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time movie, made by Hot Toys.

When I claimed the toy two weeks ago, I was a little miffed about the box. Unlike other HT toy boxes, this one seems to have not gone through a lot of thought. Basically, they wrapped a piece of soft cardboard paper around the main box. You had to slide that outer cover off the box to see the package inside. It’s not elegant. Quite the contrary, really. It doesn’t feel like you are buying a top-of-the-line figure.

The good news is that the figure comes with a lot of accessories, as these images show:

The figure also comes with another set of wardrobe (not pictured). It’s neatly tucked behind in its own plastic container. It comes with a piece of paper with instructions on changing Dastan’s wardrobe as well as putting on some of the accessories, i.e., the swords.

Right out of the box, Dastan looks like this:

I don’t know but I don’t think they quite captured Jake Gyllenhaal as he portrayed Prince Dastan in the movie. The headsculpt still looks kick-ass but it does worry me that Hot Toys seems to be slipping ever so subtly on a lot of details on their releases of late. It makes you wonder if they wouldn’t mess up the Iron Man series, or Superman, for that matter.

I still have Mark IV and Mark VI, plus the Mark V Bust, to look forward to. Until then, enjoy these shots of this latest haul.

From this angle, does it not look as though the head’s too big? The body sculpt also could use some tweaks, as I see it.
