Look what I got today!

I still hate the movie, though, and will probably boycott the sequel.

I’ve seen the movie three times already. I read the news that it’s breaking box-office records.

But I’m not happy with this movie. I was disappointed.

Henry Cavill played Superman quite well. He fits the role, thank heavens! Amy Adams, well, at least she didn’t suck. Both father figures held their own. Lucky bastard got two Robin Hoods for his dads. Russell Crowe kicked ass as Jor-El while Kevin Costner was believable as Jonathan Kent. Ayelet Zurer as Lara Lor-Van was a good choice, but I didn’t care for Diane Lane’s performance as Martha Kent. Michael Shannon did a convincing portrayal of Zod. The rest of the cast, meh.

I liked this movie better than Superman Returns, that’s for sure. The fight scenes were terrific if a bit problematic on the camera aspect.

As a huge fan of the Man, I just had high expectations. And if I am a bit too critical, it’s because I was deeply burned by that Bryan Singer excrement the last time around.

In this movie, we were regularly subjected to flashbacks of Clark’s unhappy childhood. Being different and all, he was bullied as a kid. It made it seem that Clark didn’t have any friends at all. Sure, there was that guy Pete who he saved from drowning, but just because he stopped the bullying and offering a hand at one point doesn’t mean they’re buddies.

When we first see Clark, he’s a 33 year-old drifter taking odd jobs and saving people shirtless on an oil rig that is about to explode, in the middle of the ocean. The last we know from his youth is the death of Jonathan Kent, his adoptive father. After that, no more flashbacks. Did he go to college? Or did he go on his Bruce Wayne-inspired journey of self-discovery right after the twister took his father?

Jonathan Kent perished on a tornado after trying to save their dog. The man stopped his son from saving him, because he didn’t want his son to expose his abilities to other people. Which was dumb, but I suppose I could let it pass.

The only problem was, everyone from Smallville knows that Clark can do some amazing stuff already. After all, he did push a bus full of his schoolmates up from the bottom of the river, saved the bully Pete from drowning – and everyone knew about it. Pete’s mother has even mentioned that it wasn’t the first time Clark did something like that.

So when the aliens appeared demanding that Earth surrender Kal-el, it wouldn’t have been far-fetched for those townsfolk to surmise that it may be Clark they’re after. “I knew it!” may have been the phrase of the day in Smallville that day. If aliens dropping by the Kent farm doesn’t spell that fact clearly, I don’t know what does. Yes the farm may stand isolated, but it’s not so isolated that spaceships landing in broad daylight go unnoticed. This, after the worldwide telecast of Zod’s demands.

And how could that fact be unbeknownst to the US government. After all, they were privy when those vehicles that carry Zod left the mothership. When those finally landed on the Kents’, did the military just think the aliens were asking for some water?

In this movie, Lois is not all that unaware of who Superman is. Clark revealed himself to Lois even before they knew each other personally. Actually, Clark had that habit of exposing too much of himself to those he helps – like the men trapped in the oil rig. Lois’ investigative prowess led her to Clark’s true identity. Yay for the future Mrs. Superman.

However, she was reckless with the information she had. She turned to a not-so-respectable internet blogger to expose the truth she discovered about an alien ship and that alien guy who totally saved her ass. It came back to bite her hard when that same blogger announced to the whole world that she – Lois Lane – knew who Kal-El was.

And know who Kal-El was she did. She was even more reckless with this knowledge. She called Superman by his Earth name a number of times. After being rescued from the crash site, she lead the police straight to the Kent farm. As she saw Superman, she kept yelling Clark! Did those nice police officers not hear her then?

Superman through the years always stood by his morals. Like Batman, he refused to take lives. Always looking for ways to defeat enemies without killing them.

That said, I’m not sorry he had to kill Zod. I’m just sorry that the movie did it in such a contrived way that it takes away the magnitude of that earth-shattering decision. I didn’t for one single moment believe, in that scene, that killing Zod was the only option he had. (And how come they were alone all of a sudden after he breaks Zod’s neck? Where were those people he saved?)

After the rush of seeing a different take on the most iconic of all superheroes, I still feel the movie is lacking. Sure, I was entertained. No doubt the film will just keep raking in the cash worldwide from here on in. It will spawn sequels, and possibly a Justice League movie. But it won’t alter the fact that I find this not entirely the movie I’d like about Superman. And that makes me sad.

My only consolation now is that I get to preorder the 1:6 collectible action figure. It’s due for early next year, which suits my budget just fine.

After countless Iron-man figures, hit-or-miss Avengers characters, you think you finally have your collection complete.

But the Avengers franchise is too big a cash cow for HT to let up… Case in point, here’s the latest of the Avengers characters to get immortalized as a collectible 1/6th figure – Agent Phil Coulson.

The figure looks great, but I’m still undecided whether to order one or not.

The quality of the head sculpts that reeled me into the world of mini-me’s is slipping, as it appears to be on Hot Toys’ latest previews.

You might remember this ugly piece from the Captain America prototype:

You can forgive the gnarly face that’s supposed to be the likeness of Chris Evans because the head sculpt with the helmet on is actually quite nice. But now comes this:

ThorAvenger

That face looks weird, and only vaguely resembles that of Chris Hemsworth’s.

Back when I preordered Hawkeye, I was thinking of whether to collect the Avengers set, as I knew Hot Toys will be making new versions of each hero. But now that I’ve seen these previews, HT just made my decision easier – that is, I’ll be skipping this Thor for sure! Maybe even the Cap, too.

Told ya Thor’s not too far along! After Cap, the next figurine for the new Avengers movie has been unveiled.

With great expectation, the hottest movie in town – The Avengers is coming next week! Many thanks for the likes of the Captain America collectible that we announced yesterday!
Following Captain America is another key character – Thor! The newly developed Thor collectible with muscular body and accurate proportion will be coming very soon!
Fans, please await our surprise!

Avengers Thor

Hope they don’t mess up the head like they did with the good Captain.

We still have Iron Man, the Hulk, and the two ladies of the group – Black Widow and Maria Hill, and the ensemble is complete!!

Fresh at the heels of this guy,

Avengers-Hawkeye

now comes this guy:

Avengers-CaptainAmerica

Hot Toys is proud to present the collectible figure of the great superhero from the Marvel Studios – the 1/6th scale Captain America Limited Edition Collectible Figurine from the upcoming blockbuster The Avengers movie. The movie-accurate collectible is specially crafted based on the image of Chris Evans as Captain America in his hero costume in the movie, highlighting the newly developed head sculpt, highly detailed costume and weapons.

The helmeted head figure looks nice, but the one without the protective gear needs  a LOT of work, in my opinion.

Looks like I’m gonna have to say bye-bye to my hard-earned savings, again! I’m betting Thor and Captain America won’t be too far along now.
